Following the sad passing of Prince Philip, Prince Charles has inherited his father’s Duke of Edinburgh title.
Philip’s death led to floods of our readers sending in their favourite memories and touching tributes.
The emotional funeral – screened internationally on television – took place last weekend and Charles is now the patriarch of the royal family.
We have delved into the archive to find some eye-catching photographs of south Essex residents celebrating Charles and Diana’s wedding in July 1981.
The wedding may have taken place at St Paul’s Cathedral, but the feelgood factor certainly made its way to Southend, Basildon and Canvey as our photographs show a string of fun-filled street parties were held on the south Essex streets.
