PROVING they're still Cool for Cats, tickets to see Squeeze in Westcliff sold out in record time, after they called up and asked to play there.

The New Wave band who had chart success throughout the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, requested to play the gig at Riga Music Bar as a warm-up to a forthcoming European show.

"Glen and Chris have both played here separately a few time before," says Dave Kitteridge, Riga's promoter.

"They went down really well and must have enjoyed the venue because one of their people called me up and asked if they could come and play at Riga as a warm-up."

The band, now featuring Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, John Bentley, Stephen Large and Simon Hanson, will be in Westcliff for the show on Monday, March 10. But if you're thinking of getting a ticket - forget it.

"We put them on sale on Tuesday afternoon and over half were sold by Thursday, without any promotion," says Dave.

"Then they went up on sale on their website and they were all gone by Friday at 6pm. I can't remember anything going that quick before."

The band, famous for hits such as Up the Junction, Tempted, Black Coffee In Bed, Pulling Mussels (From the Shell) and Cool for Cats, only got back together last year, after nearly a decade apart.

They toured throughout the US in August 2007. Details of the European tour have yet to be announced.
