TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences after car ended up on its roof following in a crash in Southend early on Friday morning.

Only one vehicle, a Peugeot 206, was involved in the incident in Southchurch Boulevard between Hamstel Road and Castleton Road around 1am.

Southend fire station commander Martyn Hodder said: "When we got there and saw the back of the car we knew anybody in the back of the car would have been dead.

"But the couple stepped out without a scratch, the police had called us to make the scene safe and clear up the fuel and there was a lot of fuel everywhere."

Two people from Southend, a 17-year-old boy and 33-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the accident. They were released on police bail until June 18.
