A new pilot is celebrating after becoming the UK's first one-man flying Circus.

Ronald Circus, 47, of Ravendale Way, Shoebury, has just finished eight months of training at Southend airport's flight centre and on Friday received his pilot's licence.

He said: "With a name like Circus, you have to have a sense of humour. I've been called all sorts of things throughout my life.

"It's excellent to finally get my licence. There was a lot of hard studying involved.

"I had to do seven written exams plus a radio exam, which was all very intense.

"It feels great to be a one-man flying Circus."
