A WATER company is to start essential repair works on a Canvey sewer after discovering problems.

Anglian Water will carry out repairs on the sewer pumping from Long Road Pumping Station to Canvey Island Wastewater Treatment Works in Thames Road.

The work starts initially on April 21 with trial holes, investigations to ascertain requirements for the main construction works, which will follow a few weeks later. This work is expected to last until September 2008.

The company says it has found faults in the sewer serving properties on the island but it will ensure that a "quality service" is maintained to all the properties currently connected to the sewerage network.

Discussions between Anglian Water and the local highways authority have taken place to keep traffic disruption to a minimum. Street parking and access to side roads may be restricted at certain times, but pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Pedestrian barriers, signage and safety fencing will be in place. At certain times it may be necessary to work into the evening to complete the work. The company has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the work.
