TWO people had to be rescued by a lifeboat after their vessel began taking on water near Southend Pier.
The Southend Royal National Lifeboat Institution was launched at 6.10pm on Sunday, after reports of a 23ft clinker boat in trouble.
Volunteers pumped the boat out and towed it back to its moorings off The Ray in Leigh. Both occupants of the boat were landed safely.
