A THUG who helped beat up a nightclubber and left him fighting for his life, has admitted his part in the attack.

Daniel Revill, 21, admitted causing 20-year-old Max Blake grievous bodily harm with intent, when he appeared in Basildon Crown Court yesterday.

The court heard Mr Blake was brutally attacked by Revill and 20-year-old Ian Evans outside the Working Men’s Club, in London Road, Grays.

Mr Blake, a keen footballer, was left in a coma with a fractured skull and brain damage following the savage attack last April.

He was rushed to Queen’s Hospital, Romford, where he lay unconscious for ten weeks, with 13 machines keeping him alive and a pipe inserted into his throat to help him breathe.

He returned home to his parents Nicholas and Evelyn Blake in August but was still unable to speak and could only walk with difficulty.

Yesterday at Basildon Crown Court, Revill, of Bridge Road, Grays, was originally due to stand trial on the more serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. However, before the jury was sworn in, he admitted the lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

At an earlier hearing, co-defendant Evans, also of Bridge Road, Grays, also admitted causing grievous bodily harm Adjourning sentencing, Judge Rupert Overbury told Revill to expect jail.

He said: “You know your plea will attract an immediate custodial sentence.

“I am prepared to put your sentencing back so a pre-sentence report can be obtained.

“It will deal with background information only to assist me in deciding what length of sentence should be passed.”

Evans and Revill will return to the court to be sentenced next month.
