A COURAGEOUS police officer who was paralysed in a rugby accident has finally achieved his dream of returning to work.

PC Arron Williams, 26, has always refused to be beaten after breaking his neck while playing for the Basildon First XV team.

Following the accident, in September 2007, Arron has been resolute in his determination to overcome his injuries, even playing rugby with other people in wheelchairs.

Now Arron, who was a constable at Pitsea at the time of the accident, has achieved his greatest ambition to return to work at Basildon police station.

He is now working as a PC in Basildon’s crime management team, which monitors investigations into crimes and how they are dealt with.

Speaking about his return to work Arron, who lives in Canvey, said: “I am building myself back up to working, so I have no set amount of days to work at the moment.

“It just feels great to be back after a year-and-a-half of not using my brain.”

Arron also once again praised colleagues who have worked tirelessly to raise cash, even completing the gruelling task of walking 100 miles on tough coastal terrain, to raise cash to pay for the specialist equipment he needs.

He added: “I am eternally grateful to everyone who has supported me and gone above and beyond to raise money for me. I am still learning about things people have been doing for me by catching up on all my emails.”

Arron’s return to work has been welcomed by his bosses.

Divisional commander Chief Supt Maurice Mason said: “I am very proud of all my staff for taking this approach to supporting one of their colleagues.”
