MORE than 200 people turned out to watch talented youngsters show off their BMX skills and compete to be named top in their field.

The fourth annual Legacy XS BMX jam was held at the youth group’s skate park, in Richmond Park, Benfleet.

Riders, aged from 12 into their mid-twenties, signed up to compete in a group most suited to their ability then completed a series of runs along the half pipe, demonstrating their best tricks.

Matt Rose, Legacy outreach worker, said: “A jam is basically an informal competition, with the emphasis on riding with your mates, but with a bit of friendly rivalry thrown in towards the end of the day.”

Professional riders, including Isaac Lesser who has been riding at Legacy XS since it opened four years ago, were also at the jam, and wowed the crowds and inspired younger riders A DJ entertained the crowd throughout the afternoon, paid for by energy drink company Red Bull.

Prizes were donated by Legacy XS and Hucker BMX shop in Leigh.

Legacy XS manager Keeley Dobbs said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day.

“We couldn’t have done it without the help of all the staff and volunteers at the centre, and everyone pulled together to make it the best jam we’ve ever had at XS.”
