HE may be 75, but sprightly pensioner Tony Perry is about to embark on a 60-mile cycle ride to raise awareness of a rare medical condition.
Mr Perry, of Scrub Lane, Hadleigh, is setting off on Sunday.
The keen cyclist has been in training for several weeks. He will ride across south Essex, through some of the county’s most beautiful villages, raising cash for dystonia – an incredibly painful and incurable disorder that has struck his wife, Maureen.
There are about 40,000 people with the condition in the UK.
“It can affect people of any age and background, but mainly those between 40 and 60,” said Tony.
“It can cause symptoms such as uncontrollable blinking, twitching, shaking, facial distortation and grimacing.”
Tony is raising funds for the Dystonia Society, but will be splitting the funds 50-50 with Little Havens Children’s Hospice, in Thundersley.
