COUNTRY music has a new home in Leigh.
The Margueriteville Country Music Club is the brainchild of John Liken and Darrell Binding, two country music fans who came up with the idea of a club after a fundraiser they organised last summer proved popular.
The club is named after a song by US singer Jimmy Buffett and launched with a fundraiser in aid of Lourdes Hall, Marguerite Drive, where meetings will be held each month.
Mr Binding, of Lord Roberts Avenue, said: “John and I started to talk about running a country music club in Leigh, because of last year’s success.
The launch night raised £400 for the hall repair fund, which has already collected £120,000 towards its total of £500,000.
The club’s next events will be a gig on Saturday, July 4, and a special evening on August 15 hosted by Stars in their Eyes singer and BBC Essex radio country presenter Steve Cherelle.
Anyone interested in joining the club or attending an event should call 07825 686249 or e-mail margueriteville@hotmail.co.uk
