AT least one new classroom will be created at a primary school to accommodate dozens of children who were refused places.

More than 400 people signed an online petition lobbying the council after 39 children, who live in Chafford Hundred, failed to get a place at all three of the town’s primary schools.

Thurrock Council has changed its mind and said all the children affected will get a place.

Campaign leader Lorraine Waddington said: “Our online petition sent a very clear message to the council that we are fed up with the continual lack of infrastructure being available to support our children at such an important stage in their lives.”

Ward councillor Tunde Ojetola said: “I am pleased to confirm at least one extra class will be created within the Chafford Hundred catchment area.”
