POLICE found 100 bags of cannabis, plus a stash of class A drugs, at a home in Laindon.

Two women were arrested and led away by police following the raid, which saw officers descend on Hermitage Drive at 10am yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, officers searched the property and discovered 100 small bags of cannabis as well as two carrier bags filled with the class B drug.

In addition, they found a quantity of a white powdered substance, which is undergoing tests and is believed to be cocaine.

At this stage police cannot confirm a street value for the drugs, but it is thought it would be several hundred pounds.

Two women, aged 46 and 27, both from Laindon, were arrested on suspicion of possession of illegal drugs with intent to supply.

They remained in police custody yesterday where they were being questioned.

Insp Simon Anslow said the local community and Crimestoppers had helped supply vital information in connection with the incident.

He said: “This fantastic information has given us a great result here and two arrests on suspicion to supply.

“The Lee Chapel North Neighbourhood Action Panel identified drug dealing as a priority issue and officers have responded quickly to take robust action in the area.”

Neighbourhood specialist officer PC Josh Anderson added: “This highlights how useful Crimestoppers is and demonstrates how once we have information we will act on it.”
