A ROLLERCOASTER fan is walking 60 miles from Southend’s Adventure Island to Surrey’s Thorpe Park to raise money for charity.

Danny Pledger, 21, of Sutton Road, Southend, set off from the Rage rollercoaster yesterday morning and should arrive at Thorpe Park’s Saw: The Ride some time today.

He is raising money for the Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation and has previously completed other rollercoaster-based charity challenges including spending 12 hours on the Green Scream rollercoaster at Adventure Island.

The foundation is working to raise £750,000 for two digital mammography machines and equipment which will help detect early and small cancers.

Mr Pledger, who works at the theme park in Western Esplanade, is aiming to complete the 60 miles as quickly as possible, but does not know how long it will take him to walk from Southend, through central London, out into Middlesex and on to Surrey.

He said: “It’s going to be a real test of endurance and stamina for me. I realise that to seasoned walkers this is probably not a challenge at all, but to someone like myself who is far from a fan of walking and considers ten miles to be quite a long way, it will definitely pose a challenge.”
