POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a row broke out outside the Kursaal.
The argument started between a man and a woman in her late 20s inside the Kursaal which spilled out into the street at about 10.40pm on Tuesday.
They are believed to have bumped into an elderly man with a trolley, who wore glasses and a grey overcoat. It is thought there was then some pushing and shoving involved as the fracas continued into Southchurch Avenue.
Police want to speak to witnesses who may hold information about the fracas.
This includes a young man wearing a dark jumper who intervened, causing the male to run off.
A white car then pulled up and an unknown man gave the woman a lift to the Cricketers pub in London Road, Westcliff. POlice would like to speak to the driver.
A 28-year-old Southend man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage and released on police bail until June 3.
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Shelley Moles, at Southend Police Station on 0300 3334444.
