ROCHFORD Conservative Club is fighting for survival, and may relocate to smaller premises, it has been revealed.
The private members’ club, in Back Lane, has been struggling financially for some time, and the committee is now looking at options to increase cashflow and reduce overheads.
The committee insists the club is not closing.
Treasurer, Jim Woodcock, said: “We are trying to continue. One of the ways is to look at possible alternatives, such as relocating to smaller premises to reduce our running costs.
“Our costs of running a large, old building, and the amount of membership, has always been a problem.
“We are advertising our facilities, and have a number of functions booked over the next few months. Relocating will help us.”
Members have not yet decided where they may move to.
The club is open every day, except Wednesdays, and is currently based in a building dating from 1876.
There is a fee for annual membership, but no joining cost. For details, pop in at the centre or call 01702 547540.
