FOOTBALL fans are being invited to put a team together and score some goals in aid of Basildon Hospital’s Scope in Time appeal.

Maldon Town Football Club is playing host to a special charity seven-a-side football tournament on Sunday, July 5.

The hospital is looking for teams of seven or more players to enter the event for just £7 per person, with all proceeds going to the appeal.

Organiser Philip Pastides said: “It’s going to be a fun day out for all of the family “Our aim is to make this an annual event to fundraise for the hospital trust, and raise awareness of the good work being done there.”

The Scope in Time appeal was launched last November to raise £250,000 for additional equipment to help diagnose bowel cancer and other associated conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease.

Kirsty O’Callaghan, fundraising manager for the appeal, added: “As it is a charity event, there should be a great fun, family-friendly atmosphere and hopefully the sun will shine too.

“We really hope people will come along to play and cheer on the teams.”

The event will start at 10am for a 10.30am kick off.
