MORE than 100 people will gather to celebrate the achievements of the armed forces on Monday.

The event, at Castle Point Council’s offices, in Kiln Road, Thundersley, will be attended by members of the Air Training Corps, Royal British Legion and Women’s Land Army, as well as the public.

The bugle will be sound the Reveille whilst a special Armed Forces flag is raised.

This will be followed by a presentation of military medals, including commemorative badges to the 51 Castle Point women who served in the Land Army.

After the public event, current members and veterans of the Armed Forces will be invited into the council offices for a cream tea reception with the mayor.

Council leader Pam Challis said: “The Armed Forces make a tremendous contribution to our country and this is Castle Point’s opportunity to pay tribute to those people – past, present and future.

“We hope these events will show our gratitude, while also reminding residents just how much these people have done for us.”

The ceremony begins at 10.30am and all are welcome to attend.

The official flag will then be raised every morning until the official Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.
