STUDENTS have brightened up Hadleigh’s Salvation Army farm with a mural.

The 8ft by 18ft painting, depicting the seven days of creation, was crafted by Seevic College art and design students as part of their course.

The colourful work has been mounted on the wall of the centre’s restaurant in Church Road, Hadleigh.

Seven BTEC Diploma students from the college, in Kin Road, Thundersley, spent three weeks developing the painting, by researching biblical ideas and discussing their plans with staff at the Salvation Army base.

Ellie Bond, 17, from Basildon said: “The project helped us to work on a big, ambitious scale, and to work on site with a client’s needs in mind.

“The Salvation Army wanted the theme of creation, so we researched other artists’ versions of it, but we abstracted it, using exaggerated shapes and bolder colours.”

Centre manager Shelley Carter was thrilled with the students’ final artwork. She said: “The students were a credit to the college.

“I am really happy with the final outcome and think the mural looks really professional.

“The students worked with a great sense of pride and enthusiasm and worked brilliantly as a team.”

Other Seevic College students studying the same course also produced murals, which can be seen at Westcliff’s Balmoral Community Centre and in the playground, library and computer suite of Hadleigh Junior School, in Church Road.
