A TEAM of workers raised hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research by taking part in the Race For Life.

Six female staff from TNT Document Services, based at Festival Leisure Park, Basildon, plus friends and family, took part in the 5km walk in Gloucester Park, Basildon.

Together they raised at least £400.

The main reason they took part was for TNT worker Elaine McCarthy, 56, of Brock Hill, Wickford, who went along to support, but was unable to walk the course because she is fighting breast and liver cancer.

Elaine’s neighbour Gwen Kemp, 69, who does not work for TNT, completed the course in her place.

Elaine said: “We have been doing Race For Life since I first got breast cancer five years ago. I think we must have raised at least £2,000 since we started.

“Gwen is really sprightly, so she had no trouble getting round the course. She was also doing it in memory of her husband who died from cancer.

“For me doing this every year is a way of saying thank you and giving something back for all the fantastic treatment I’ve been given. Basildon and Southend hospitals have both been wonderful.”
