SEVEN public-spirited boys have received challenge badges following two years of hard work.

The boys, aged between six and eight, were given the awards after undertaking a number of activities and good deeds for the Thundersley Beavers’ group.

They began working towards their badges two years ago, taking part in fundraising, meeting people in the community and even an overnight trip to Hockley woods.

They received their awards at the Thundersley Scouts annual meeting in St Peter’s Church hall, in Church Road.

The Beavers were only set up two years ago after leader Linda Phillips, of London Road, Benfleet, was asked to add a Beavers group to Thundersley’s Cubs and Scouts.

Linda, 40, said: “It’s about trying new things. I don’t want to see kids stuck inside playing computer games, I want them to be doing things they wouldn’t normally try.”

The Beavers have just been on a visit to see what goes on at Southend coastguard and there are plenty more activities planned to take place outside.
