SEVEN mums in south east Essex have received certificates allowing them to become breastfeeding support volunteers.

The women have spent 14 weeks completing the Mum2Mum training course Claire Cleverley from Rayleigh, Natasha Dougdale from Benfleet, Carrie James, Sarah Bullock and Christine Warwick-Brown all from Leigh, Lisa Wrobel from Thorpe Bay and Emma Wylie from Shoebury can now support breastfeeding mums across the area.

Margaret Gray, associate director of public health at NHS South East Essex, said: “We know breastfeeding provides many health benefits to mums and babies.

“We also know some mums can find it difficult at first.

“Our Mum2Mum volunteers can help by providing valuable support, advice and encouragement.

“I would like to congratulate the seven mums who have recently completed the course and thank them and all the other breastfeeding support volunteers for all their hard work and commitment.”

Any mums who feel they need support with breastfeeding can ring the Mum2Mum breastfeeding support helpline on 07801 097605 or 07814 486497.

A new training course for supporters will start in September 2009.
