A MOTORIST has been found guilty of dangerous driving after mowing down a reveller following a row outside a Basildon nightclub.

However Marvin Mendez, 24, was cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Jurors were told Mendez and his pals got into an argument with Bradley Gladden and his friends outside Liquid nightclub, in the Festival Leisure Park, on October 31 last year.

During the trial, at Basildon Crown Court, jurors heard how both groups were thrown out by bouncers and the fight continued outside.

Eventually the two groups separated, but Mendez, who was driving his friend’s car at the time, later spotted Mr Gladden and two of his friends walking along the road close to the Fitness First gym.

The court heard Mendez accelerated reaching speeds of between 33mph and 42mph, and ploughed into Mr Gladden.

The victim, from Rainham, suffered a broken leg, a broken elbow and several fractured ribs.

He spent 12 days in intensive care.

But Mendez, of Ashburton Avenue, Ilford, maintained he did not deliberately drive the car at Mr Gladden, and the victim had been walking in the middle of the road.

Following the verdict Judge John Lodge adjourned sentencing until July.

Mendez has been released on bail until then.
