CHILDREN were presented with goodie bags after completing courses encouraging them to walk safely to school.

Mayor of Thurrock Maureen Pearce presented the young winners with fluorescent bags marked “It’s Good to walk” at the civic offices, in New Road, Grays.

One winner from each of the schools taking part in the pedestrian training scheme, organised by Thurrock Council’s Road Safety team, was chosen to receive the goodie bag prize.

Pedestrian training is undertaken in every primary school in the borough to prepare pupils for busy roads and cut the number of children hurt and killed in road accidents.

Thurrock Council’s road safety manager Denise Langan said: “It is essential children are given the appropriate skills and information to enable them to be safe road users and continue to use and enhance those skills through to adulthood.”
