GIRL Guides appeared live in front of millions of viewers on the BBC’s One Show.

Tayler Cronly-Dillon, 14, from the 2nd Chantry Guides, Billericay, looked the consummate professional as she chatted with hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley on the prime-time show.

Along with Tayler, Megan Jackson, 12, Zoe Juniper, 11, Courtney Smith, 11 and Maddie Evison, ten, all from 4th Eastwood Guides, were asked to cook a meal for celebrity chef Rick Stein, who was the main guest on the show.

They were picked after winning a an online cookery competition in May and prepared a meal of homemade meatballs in a fresh tomato sauce, served on tagliatelle.

They followed that with an ‘apple surprise’ – a dessert of Madeira sponge cake, stewed apples, cream and strawberries. After sampling the meal, Stein presented the Guides with their Outdoor Cook badges live on the show.

During her interview, Tayler explained said she enjoyed being a Guide and it was important the girls could just be themselves without any boys around.

Julie Nye, county commissioner for Essex South East Guiding, said: “I am incredibly proud of the way the girls presented themselves on live TV.

“They gained a fascinating insight into how a TV programme is created and had lots of fun.”

The One Show is a magazine programme broadcast weekdays at 7pm on BBC One. The Essex Guides appeared on the show last Wednesday.
