Castle Point MP criticises gritting of borough's roads

Bob Spink has hit out at Essex County Council for treacherous roads in Castle Point following heavy snow.

The Independent MP said he was forced to make three emergency trips on Thursday night to help people stranded in Benfleet.

Dr Spink said: “These problems happen regularly yet all we get are apologies from the councillors who are responsible, this is simply not good enough."

Use some of that expenses money you paid your ex girlfriend's daughter while she was at University to buy salt for the roads.

I don't know what road he had to go to but I live on the London Road. I work in Dagenham and my husband was at home so he was giving me information about the weather and road conditions. He told me that he had seen the gritters going along London Road and round Sadlers Farm. The only problem was the speed at which they drive, it's a wonder any of the grit hits the road as they go so fast, over the speed limit. Sadlers was passable at 23:15 when I got to it, just had to use caution.
I can't believe how many people go out in their cars without clearing the snow from at least the windows.

When will Bob Spink stop promoting himself! I live in Castle Point, yes it did snow, I got up early left home a little early (6.30) the roads had been gritted but grit and salt does not work on laying snow it works on ice. When traffic starts to crush the snow the salt breaks up the crushed snow / ice. It is about time people accepted bad weather and jjust giot on with it. In the 60's we had proper snow and we all coped then. Get off the back of the Councillors and Councils the gritters were out, you cannot cover all eventualities. If Bob had to go out I would like to know why people need to take responsibility for them selves and if needed call teh emergency services not their MP who is actytually non elected as he was elected as a tory he should have stood down and given electors a chance to have a decent represntative!

I wanted to write a long post arguing why Bandwaggon Bob was wrong to say what he did, but he does this stuff all the time now and I'm tired of it. Bob, go now, you are just a prat!

"Help I am stuck in the snow - what should I do?
.
A - call a friend or relative.
.
B - call the emergency services.
.
C - call my MP in the early hours of the morning because I know he can plow through snow drifts and has superhuman powers to rescue people.

Why has this man been allowed to give taxpayers money to his ex girlfriend's daughter and others and not been prosecuted. Is there one law for them and one for us?

For those retired folk who talk about the good old days of the 60'S/when they both went to school in drifts of snow and drove safely to work all at the same time,'would they accept that the volume/speed of life has changed which make things different now'?
Or can memories have dimmed with time?
I certainly remember in the good old 70'S when i was young life was pretty nightmarish.Remember those3 day weeks and no heating in January, massive strikes, teachers on strike, not burying the dead.
Oh life would be so much better if only we could have the bobby back on the beat and directing traffic wearing his white gloves.

Leighbloke, I remember those "good old days" and when it snowed not much moved, people phoned work and claimed not to be able to attend, schoolkids loved a day off and made sure they got it. The populace wrote to the papers moaning about the lack of gritters and snowploughs and claiming this is the 1950s/60s/70s and not the 1800s.
The only thing which seems to have changed is that people don't call the fire, ambulance or police services any more - they call their MP. What a marvellous person he must be to go to the rescue of those distressed constituents - I am a little financially embarrassed, perhaps such a conscientious MP could extend his concern in my direction?

He could not charge his emergency trips to the taxpayer surely .... He would not have got his little car off his drive . unless ,unless he used his birds car ,He has done for over the last 6 years . wonder wether the petrol he puts in is allocated to a particular license plate . if so surely a journalist can prove him a liar again and again and again .

All these and many more are valid reasons to get Spink out next year.
