A COUNCIL has been praised after it became the first authority in Essex to enter into an agreement championing small businesses.

Castle Point Council has signed up to the small businesses engagement accord at a ceremony at the council’s offices in Kiln Road, Thundersley.

The 14-point document, prepared by the Federation of Small Businesses, commits the council to a number of measures to aid small firms.

The council has promised to nominate business engagement champions, whose role will be to ensure the views of the business community are considered at every stage of any consultation exercise.

The federation has praised the council for its work with small firms on a range of issues, including getting them involved with the Hadleigh 2012 Olympic site and the regeneration of Canvey town centre.
