A BLOCK of flats could be built on land next to a care home.
Mr and Mrs K Wright have applied to Basildon Council for planning permission to knock down their house in Stock Road, Billericay, and replace it with six two-bedroom flats.
The proposed building would be surrounded by Hamelin House care home, an existing complex of three-storey flats, and a housing development on the old St Andrew’s Hospital site.
Billericay-based architect T G Vanner has drawn up the plans, and said the flats are designed to be in keeping with the surrounding area.
Councillors from Biller-icay Town Council are not objecting to the plans.
John Buchanan, head of planning at the town council, said: “Although, we don’t particularly want flats going up in Billericay, in the right place they are OK.” Basildon Council is due to decide on the application in February.
