TONS of salt grit is at the top of Southend Council’s shopping list as it works to secure enough grit to be able to lift its priority spreading routes and resume normal service.
At present the council only has enough grit to spread on major routes and those used by emergency services, and has a 50 ton delivery due today, Tuesday, although hundreds more tons are needed in order to replenish stockpiles.
The delivery comes after the council's gritting staff spent the weekend spreading grit on roads, shopping precincts, residential homes and bus stops to try and improve conditions undeerfoot.
