THE finishing touches are being put to a brand new retro clothes shop.

A new charity shop in Southend High Street is preparing for its grand opening at the beginning of March, but staff are keen it stays away from the usual charity shop image.

The shop will be raising funds for Lady McAdden breast screening unit in Westcliff, which is aiming to raise £250,000 for a new digital mammography machine.

It will sell vintage clothing and accessories, as well as books, DVDs, CDs and bric a brac.

General manager Linda Harrison said: “We are so excited to be opening our shop in Southend. We’ve had so much support for it.”

Decorators and electricians have been working on the building, which has been empty for many months.

Staff are still appealing for more donations to sell and volunteers to help out in the shop, opposite the Royals shopping centre.
