A CAR had to be rescued from a ditch following a four-car pile up on a treacherous icy road.
Police and fire crews were called to Heath Road in Billericay, after the smash was reported around 5pm.
The road was closed off between its junction with Potash Road and Outwood Common Road as firefighters worked to rescue a 4x4 Landrover from the ditch.
Firefighters used a special winch to pluck the vehicle from the ditch.
No one was believed to be hurt in the crash and the road was reopened, with the emergency services leaving shortly after 6pm.
