A MUM had her garden wall destroyed after a motorist ploughed into it – then demanded a speed camera was put up at the accident blackspot.

Denay Walton, 28, was at her home in Church Road, Ramsden Bellhouse, with her three children when she heard a crash outside.

When she looked out of her window, she realised a motorist had crashed into her front garden, and demolished her front wall.

She said: “I heard a massive rumble and I thought it was an earthquake.

“I looked out of the window and at first, I didn’t notice the wall, but I could see the car was diagonal across the road.

“I went downstairs, but I didn’t want to look into the car because I thought the guy would be hurt.”

Luckily, the male driver of the red Toyota Yaris escaped unhurt, although the front of his car was crumpled.

The man was taken to Basildon Hospital where he was treated for shock.

The crash is the latest in a long line in the road which is frequently plagued by boy racers and motorists using it as a rat run. Residents and parish councillors have long been campaigning for the speed limit to be reduced.

In 2006, speed-calming build-outs were put there in a bid to cut the problem.

But more than three years on, motorists are still regularly caught doing more than double the 30mph speed limit.

In August last year, the Echo told how hero neighbours rescued 21-year-old Murray Bass from his burning MG ZR after he ploughed into a wall and a telegraph pole.

Mrs Walton added: “I would like to see the speed limit cut down to 20mph.

“They should put a speed camera up here before someone gets killed.”

The crash happened at around 5.30am yesterday.
