SOUTHEND mayor Brian Smith paid tribute to the local Women’s Royal Voluntary Service Meals on Wheels service at its Southend headquarters.
The mayor, and his wife Lyn, visited the base at Temple Farm Industrial Estate, where more than 6,000 meals are made each year.
Mr Smith said: “The service WRVS provides for older people in the Southend area is invaluable. Older people who can’t get out not only get a meal, they have regular contact with someone they know and trust, and who can make sure they’re safe and well.”
John Baker, manager of the service, added: “We’re very pleased to have the support of the mayor and mayoress, and delighted they made time to visit Southend Meals on Wheels to see what we do.”
