HUNDREDS of new fish are being put into the lake at Northlands Park.
More than 600 carp, each weighing between 1lb and 6lb, will be put in the water by the Basildon Angling Centre, which manages the district’s fish stock for Basildon Council.
It is hoped the smaller fish will be easier for children to catch when fishing during school holidays.
This is the third phase of re-introducing fish back into the lake since Angling Enterprise lost the contract to manage it in March last year and took out its own fish from the lake.
Kevin Blake, the council’s cabinet member for leisure, said: “Re-introducing these fish forms part of the work we are doing to improve the quality and range of activities that can be enjoyed in our parks and green spaces.
“This further supports the family atmosphere that many of our parks already benefit from.”
