A LONE sailor was rescued after becoming unwell at sea.
At 1.45pm on Wednesday, Thames Coastguard sent the RAF rescue helicopter to the man who was on board an eight-metre yacht in the Barrow Deep - 18 miles off Sheerness.
The coastguard spotter plane was in the vicinity and kept the boat in its sights until the helicopter arrived.
The casualty was winched from the yacht and taken to Southend airport where he was met by an ambulance and transferred to Southend hospital.
Sheerness lifeboat located the drifting craft and towed it to Queenborough harbour.
