A WOMAN whose niece was stillborn is raising money for a special place at Basildon Hospital which helps grieving families.

Jenna Tucker, 24, has organised a charity evening for the Forget Me Not room in the Maternity Unit, where women are taken to deliver if they are going to have a stillborn baby.

This was the situation Jenna’s sister, Claire, was faced with in September when she learned her unborn baby, Daisy, had died.

The Forget Me Not room meant that Jenna and her family were able to be with her sister and offer her support around the clock.

Jenna said: “On Monday, September 7, my beautiful niece Daisy was born weighing 7lb 4oz, the most beautiful baby in the world. Until the moment I held her, I still expected her to cry or move or do something, but nothing happened.

“The Forget Me Not room is a godsend, the whole family could stay with my sister day and night until she came out of hospital.

“The midwives and nurses could not have done more for her.”

Jenna’s fundraising evening is on Tuesday, June 1, between 7 and 11pm at the Partyman World store in Repton Close, Burnt Mills, Basildon, which she and her mum Lorraine run.

There will be a live band, dancers, face painting, craft for children, photo shoots, games, cakes for sale, and a raffle for visitors to enjoy.

Jenna, of Kingsley Walk, Chadwell St Mary, hopes to raise as much money as possible for the room, which depends solely on fundraising.

She added: “The big problem is the room can only continue to provide this support if it receives more funding.

This is why I want to help them raise money, as it helped my sister through one of the toughest times of her life and for that the whole family will always be grateful.”

Tickets for the event are £5 for adults on the door, with children under 16 free.
