THE world’s biggest Mexican-style fast-food chain, Taco Bell, has announced plans to open its first UK outlet – in Essex.

The company will soon be selling burritos, quesadillas, and nachos at Lakeside Shopping Centre at the end of June.

The move by the global firm, which is market leader in Mexican-style food in the USA, will create 40 jobs. The chain is one of the most profitable businesses in the US and is part of Yum!, the world’s biggest restaurant company.

In recent years, the company has opened Taco Bell restaurants in Spain and Cyprus, as well as launching in India and Dubai.

Nick Dawson, general manager of Taco Bell UK and Europe, said: “The UK is a very important market for Taco Bell. This is a major step in our international expansion, and Lakeside is just the start of our exciting plans in this country. There’s a gap in the quick-service market and I’m confident our range of new menu items will prove very popular here.”

The company has yet to reveal where else it plans to open Taco Bell restaurants in the UK, but says more will definitely be following.
