THE OLYMPIC flame could be carried through Southend on its way to the 2012 London games.
Southend Council has put together a bid for the honour of having the Olympic Torch Relay in the borough, along with other councils in Essex.
The bid has been sent off to the Nations and Regions East group of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and the council expects to get an answer in September.
Derek Jarvis, the councillor for culture, said: “We imagine the torch coming by ship or by plane to the airport or pier."
