A LANDLORD has been told to tear down a two-storey shed built on the roof of an extension behind his pub.
Southend councillors decided to take enforcement action against the owners of the Oakwood pub, in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood.
Council officers said a councillor complained in March about the wooden shed built on the flat roof of a rear extension.
The officers’ report to the development control committee said: “The shed is completely incongruous in its design.
“It relates poorly to the main building and surrounding area.”
It also said the shed has “no design merit” and is visible from the pub car park and from homes behind the pub.
Councillors voted unanimously to take action. Mike Assenheim (Ind, Shoeburyness) said: “It beggars belief.”
No one at the pub wished to comment.
They have a month to comply.
