A MAN is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach with a broken bottle.

The attack happened at about 1am on Saturday morning, outside Costcutters, on London Road Westcliff.

The 22-year-old victim, from Southend, was rushed to Southend Hospital by ambulance with severe abdominal injuries.

His condition is described as stable.

Police say they believe the attacker used a broken bottle to inflict the injuries.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy from Rayleigh in connection with assault.

He has been released on police bail until Wednesday, July 28.

Police say CCTV footage shows a group of people standing outside the shop as well as several people going in and out near the time of the incident.

They would like to hear from them and anyone else who may have seen anything.
