RAIL company c2c has won a prestigious industry award, recognising high standards.

c2c, which runs trains from Shoebury to London Fen-church Street, beat competition from other companies to be named London Commuter Rail Operator of the Year at a national award ceremony.

The accolade came after official rail industry figures confirmed c2c had set a new punctuality record, of almost 99 per cent, among Britain’s franchised railways.

The four weeks to August 21 saw 98.8 per cent of services on time, breaking the old record – which was also held by c2c – by almost 1 per cent.

Julian Drury, managing director of c2c, said: “I am immensely proud of the team at c2c, who greatly deserve this award for the consistently high standards they continue to achieve. The award recognises the important role c2c plays in delivering a high quality train service for our customers in London and south Essex day-in, day-out.”
