POLICE are warning motorists to make sure they lock their vehicles after a spate of car crime in several Southend roads.
Thieves attempted to get into a Honda Accord in Pantile Avenue but left empty handed. A steering wheel was stolen from a Nissan Bluebird in Cumberland Avenue then someone tried to get into a Ford Sierra in Whittingham Avenue.
A Ford Fiesta, which was stolen from Dryden Avenue, was later found in Ennismore Gardens.
In Eastern Avenue thieves attempted to steal a Volkswagon transport and a Mercedes Sprinter van was broken into in Trinity Road, Southend. A sat nav was stolen along with a mobile phone holder.
All the incidents occurred between September 17 to 23.
Insp Phil Marsh said: “I would appeal to car owners to make life harder for criminals by making sure you lock your car or van. Park your vehicles in places that are busy and well lit. Always keep your doors locked and windows shut.
“If you have a car stereo, choose one that’s removable or has a removable front cover. Make sure you take it with you when you leave your car.
“Don’t leave your property on display on the dashboard or front or back seats. Remove valuables like radios, sat navs, mobile phones and laptops from your car each time you park.”
