A MAN has been convicted of attempted rape after he attacked a woman in her own home.

Darcey Haynes, 42, went to the Southend home of the victim where he punched her in the head and ripped her clothes off.

He sexually assaulted the woman prompting her to kick out and scream in an effort to escape.

But she eventually lost consciousness due to the severe blows being rained down on her head.

The ordeal eventually came to an end when Haynes was disturbed by the woman's daughter and a friend arriving at the house.

Haynes, who lves in Barking, had previously denied one charge of attempted rape and one charge of assault by penetration, but a jury found him guilty following a trial that lasted just over a week.

Suzanne Stringer said, reviewing lawyer for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “This man put his victim through a horrific ordeal, using violence and force to sexually abuse her, and to attempt to rape her. She is very lucky he was disturbed and wasn’t able to continue his assault even further.

“We are grateful that this woman came forward to assist with the prosecution. We hope now he has been convicted, she can move forward with her life and try to put this incident behind her.”

Haynes, 42, will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court, in the week beginning November 22, 2010.
