A man was taken to hospital after trying to rescue his dog from a frozen lake.
The man attempted to rescue the dog after it fell through ice on Wallasea Island shortly after 10am this morning.
Firefighters, who have repeated their warnings of the dangers of walking on frozen lakes and rivers, took the man home after he managed to get out the lake.
The dog was not harmed An ambulance crew attended at 10.48am and took him to Southend Hospital to be checked over.
He later returned home.
