PARENTS are being told what secondary school places children have been given in Southend after an email fault was fixed.

Youngsters who are due to start at secondary schools later this year were due to find out this morning where exactly they would be going.

But an IT problem at Southend Council overnight meant parents, who have applied for places online, either received an email which was incomprehensible or they did not receive an email at all.

Some of the corrupt emails were sent at midnight meaning some parents were left scratching their heads when they awoke to see what was in their inbox.

Just after 9am today a council spokesman said the problem had been resolved and the correct emails would be winging their way to parents.
