A footballer who was left partially paralysed after an assault will walk out on to the pitch with his team mates and help them lift the championship cup.

Nicky Morgan, 26, will be joining the Billericay Town players at New Lodge for their last game tomorrow against Lowestoft.

It is the team’s last game of the season and promises to be a double celebration as Nicky returns and fans celebrate winning the league, which was secured away at Margate last weekend.

Nicky was attacked and seriously injured six months ago outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood.

He is now walking with one crutch for short periods in the gym at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, in Buckingham- shire.

The 6ft 7in goalkeeper said: “I can’t wait to be back with all the boys. I am really looking forward to it and seeing everyone.

“It’s going to be an amazing day. I am hoping to be on the pitch just before the game and, hopefully, after the game to be with the boys to get my medal and help them lift the cup.

“I want to see everyone because they have all been so supportive since the accident.

“Lots of the team and management have been up to the hospital to see me...they have been great.”

Craig Edwards, team manager, added: “We’ve had a picture of him up in the dressing room all season and he is just a complete inspiration, with all he’s gone through.

“We have always been a tight-knit club, but this has brought us together. We are all looking forward to seeing him.”

Nicky will be discharged from the Stoke Mandeville spinal unit on May 30 and will be going back to live in Loughton.
