KEEN gardeners are sprucing up their front gardens to compete in an annual contest.
Leigh Town Council, along with Leigh Horticultural Society, has launched the search to find the town’s smartest plots.
As part of the “Good for Leigh” campaign, it is looking for nominations of gardens that help to brighten up the streets.
All eligible nominated gardens will be visited and judged by members of the Horticultural Society between June and September 2012.
The town council’s annual “Leigh in Front” trophy will be awarded to the best entry along with a silver and bronze prize for the runners up.
Councillor Carole Mulroney, chairman of the town council’s “Good for Leigh” working party, said: “We are not just looking for traditional front gardens. The winners will be people who have made the most of the front of their homes and whose efforts have helped to put “Leigh in Front” of other towns in the kerbside appeal stakes!”
Nominations should be sent to the town council’s office in Elm Road by June 1.
