FOUR youths had to be rescued by a hovercraft after being caught by the incoming tide.
Coastguards and the RNLI were scrambled just before 2pm on Saturday when a member of the public called 999 after spotting the group in difficulties on the beach in Southend.
The RNLI’s hovercraft, which was already out performing routine exercises, was sent to pick up the youths and drop them safely back at the shore.
They were treated briefly by paramedics, before being collected by their parents
