RESIDENTS are being encouraged to expand their skills this summer.
To mark the year of the Jubilee celebrations and Olympic Games, Southend Adult Community College have launched a summer programme of short courses.
From art, fitness to languages the three-week programmes are ideal for anyone who wants to persue a new hobby, improve their skills in an area of interest or advance their personal development.
Vice principal Rick Olver said: "Our summer courses are the perfect opportunity to get into the mood for this year's Olympics and Diamond Jubilee. The programme includes a wide range of photography, IT, fitness, and arts courses; as well as a brand new course that looks at English cultural heritage during the reign of Elizabeth II.
"The college has even included a range of courses for children eight to 11 years old throughout August."
With over 100 courses available, residents can also prepare for their summer holidays by signing up for classes in French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Polish and Spanish.
Anyone wanting to explore their creative side can have a go at life drawing, ceramics, textiles, creative writing or performing arts.
The classes will take place at campuses in Ambleside Drive, Southchurch, and the Belfairs Centre in Leigh.
