SHE is known for her extravagant Hallowe’en parties once a year, but now weddings and even wrestling could be on the cards.

Jane Aprile-Smith has put on spooky parties at 16th century Nevendon Manor in Borwick Lane, Wickford, for the past three years.

Now she is applying to Basildon Council to licence the house for family events and weddings all year round.

Jane, 43, is hoping to set up an events business after her lavish Hallowe’en dos and fairy parties for children, family and friends became a hit, attracting hundreds of people.

She has applied for a licence to sell alcohol from 8am until midnight seven days a week, with an hour’s extension from November to January and an extra hour on New Year’s Eve.

The licence would also allow live music, dance, recorded music, entertainment, screening of films, indoor sport events, including boxing and wrestling, plus late-night refreshment.

However, Jane, who works for a major retailer, assured neighbours that if approved, she would be unlikely to hold such events and it would not be used as a night club or bar.

She said: “The events I have put on for friends and family have been so popular, that people have said they should be open to the public, particularly with the setting of the manor.

“I would like to set up an events business, but work full-time, so it would mainly be weekends.”

She said events would likely be wedding receptions, the Hallowe’en parties and Santa’s grottoes at Christmas.

She added: “I would also be looking at charity nights, childrens’ parties, fairy parties for the girls and cowboys and Indians for the boys.

“It would all be family events, so we are not talking about wild parties or anything like that.”

Jane, who rents the manor house, said she had contacted neighbours to discuss the proposals.

Anyone who wants to comment on the application can contact council licensing officer Roy Robinson on 01268 294676 by June 12.
